Chronic Orofacial Pain
The mouth and face are very "dense" with anatomy: muscles, nerves, blood vessels, mucous membranes, sinues, bones, joints, and of course teeth.
Any of the above could be a source of acute or chronic pain. Symptoms could be misleading and at times patients wander from one dentist to a nother with an "aching tooth" when the problem is actually something completely different.
Training in Oral Medicine gives knowledge and experience in diagnosing such problems and recommending the right treatment. A variety of medications, pychologic treatments, local injections, and physical therapies are available.
